It isn't long before Morathi crosses into Foosa territory and, because he's nearly blind and hard of hearing, he's twice as vulnerable to attack as the average lemur. Though he tends to be the king of the klutzes in the tribe, here he exercises extreme caution, moving almost silently...if it wasn't for the occasional "pop" of his joints when he moves anyway.
"What was I supposed to be looking for again?" he mutters, pausing and scratching his head, "Something purple, I think...no, maybe it was red...no, turquoise...hunter green...?"

But a rebelious young foosa had snuck away when she thought she heard the sound of a very helpless lemur, a very blind, deaf, helpless lemur.
Her name was Nushani and had always dreamed about being the strongest foosas of them all! She was only about a year old but she would catch this lemur and bring him back to brag to her littermates.
She had been watching Morathi with sly emerald eyes from a rock overhang and she had a plan on how she would catch him...it wouldn't be that hard!

This is when a sense of fear grips Morathi as he can sense someone watching him, but he really couldn't see who it is if it were standing out in plain sight. Keeping his back against trees, rocks, and whatever solid things he encounters, Morathi tries his best to prevent anyone or anything from sneaking up on him and taking him by surprise.

Nushani just had to laugh at the sight before her before leaping silently down from the ledge and into the forest behind the ruffed lemur. She watched him from behind, her tail flicking with anticipation.

Morathi knows someone is there and he freezes, raising his walking stick in the most threatening manner he can manage. It's more comedic than it is threatening though as his arms shake while he's holding the stick up. One really can't tell whether the shaking is because he's afraid or simply because of his age.
"All right, wise guy!" he tries to growl, "Cut the games! Show yourself! Unless you're a foosa...then you can just tell me you're a foosa and I will run blindly in a panicked frenzy..."

Nushani, being a rambunctious youngster, giggled at the old mans comment. The laugh echoed through the canyons and forests, so it was hard for Morathi to tell where the noise was coming from. The emerald-eyed foosa emerged from the forest trailing at full speed at the baffled ruffed lemur. But before she got two feet from the lemur, still clumsy with her paws, tripped on her own long tail and tummbled into open view.

Morathi jumps, startled as something hits the ground quite close to him. Surprisingly, he hobbles up to Nushani and stoops over to get an up-close look at her, coming mere inches from her nose as he squints his old and failing eyes at her.
"FOOSA!!!" he screams upon finally recognizing her for what she is. Naturally, his first instinct is to flee, but fleeing without seeing has its disadvantages. He finds this out when he runs full tilt--right into a solid rock wall, knocking himself out cold.

Nushani, who was still half dazed from her stumble, snarled and leapt up when she realized she was on the chase. Her eyesight, being the exact opposite of Morathi's, targeted the unconsious lemur and raced to retreive the primate.
She snatched him up in her jaws being careful not to crush him. No, she wasn't going to kill him...right away. First she had to go home to brag to her siblings.
Carrying the lemur, she began to prance gracefully through the tall grass and back to her familys' cave.

Morathi awakens again about halfway back to Nushani's lair and it doesn't take him too long to figure out what is happening.
"Hey! Put me down!" he commands, squirming in her grasp, "Don't make me hurt you!"

"You! Hurt me?!" Nushani grumbled with Morathi still in her mouth. She laughed at the old lemurs' comment poking Morathi with her razor sharp teeth.
She was still jumping up rock cliffs and running through lush feilds as she carried him.

"Yer darn-tootin', I'll hurt yeh!" Morathi growls wincing as her teeth threaten to draw blood, then whacking her muzzle with his walking stick in an attempt to inflict enough pain to cause her to open her mouth and howl, "Let...me...go...this...instant!"

Of course, the stick hurt, but not enough to drop the animal, it just made her bite harder. She ran extra fast toward her lair. She didn't want to have to bite the lemur to death before she got home.

Morathi wisely abandons his futile attempts soon after Nushani increases the pressure on his frail body with her teeth. Where things stand now, he can see no way out of this demise and his entire life is already flashing before his eyes. Well...what little he can actually remember about his life anyway.

Nushani was almost home, she could already feel the warm feeling she got when she did something right, and this was one of them! Oh, how jealous her siblings would be! She actually caught something!
That was when she heard something. She sound the grass made when something large was nearbly. She flung her head to the right, Morathis limp body flailing wildly. Then she saw it. It was only a blur then the wind being knocked out of her as a hard blow hit her in the side. Morathi flew out of her jaws and landed not far from her.
Nushani finally looked up after she could breath normally again. What she saw was a bigger, badder, male foosa and he looked hungry for that lemur of hers.

Morathi somersaults a good few yards away as a result of being flung from Nushani's jaws. He finally comes to a stop when he collides with a tree in an upside-down position, his back against the trunk. Shaking his head to clear it, he opens his eyes and the first thing he sees is the male foosa staring him down.
"Go away! Run! Flee!" he shouts at both of them as he staggers to his feet and tries to hobble away, pausing to shake his stick at them, "Depart before I unleash my wrath on you both!"

The two foosa exchange glances before slouching lower to the ground and walking stealthly towards him.
But the male foosa growls in anger. "What do you think you're doing?" He shouts at Nushani with a deep voice, "This is my meal!"
"Actuall..." Nushani tried to object but way knocked out of the way a second time as the larger mongoose creature lashed at her with large paws. She did at least two backflips before skidding to a halt. She had two deep slash marks on her side but nothing lethal.
Meanwhile, the larger foosa continued to advance on the blind Morathi.

Morathi is smart enough to figure out that these things can outrun him without even trying, so he knows he must resort to some other alternative attempt to get himself out of this.
"Please, you don't wanna eat me," he chuckles nervously, "I'm an old fart! I'm older than dirt! Look, I'm nothing but skin and bones 'cause my teeth don't work like they used to. Trust me, I'll leave a bad taste in your mouth! You know what they say--uh...never eat old food, right?"

The male foosa looks at him strangely but keeps advancing anyway, "I haven't had food for more than three days! Do you really think I care what it tastes like?!" He grumbled irritably.

"Well, no, but I really think you should consult a professional nutritionist," Morathi continues, his mind racing as he tries to come up with some sort of distraction, "I'm sure they'll tell ya the same thing--old food can be lethal! And as old as I am, think of the food poisoning you'll get! The gas! The indigestion! You'll really wish you would have let me go."

Hirua, the foosa, stomach growled fiercly. "My stomach doesn't think so! Plus, I'd only be for a little while! Now come on!" Hirua paused to open the hatch, "In ya go!"

"Uh...no," Morathi replies quickly, using his hands to push Hirua's jaws shut again, "I'm not going to help you punish yourself. You'll be sicker than a dog, I tell you! Have you considered going vegetarian? It's a lot healthier for you, y'know."

Suddenly, a small brown blur shot out from nowhere, barely knocking Hirua to one side. It was Nushani her green eyes glowing with adventure. What a story this'd be to bring back home! A capture, stolen meal, real fight! This'd be great!
With small but razor sharp teeth she bit hard into Hiruas fur, drawing a few drops of blood.

Morathi's not exactly sure what just happened, but he's not about to stand around and ask. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he turns and starts running back toward his own territory as fast as his stiff legs will carry him.
"Hopefully they'll have killed each other before they notice I'm gone," he mutters as he continues running/stumbling/limping/hobbling.

Nushani, being at a huge disadvantage due to age and size, was getting beat around like an old rag doll. She didn't know how much more she could take.
Luckily for her, Hirua noticed Morathi had disappeared and went to looking for his fast (or not so fast) food.
Morathi was almost hidden by the tall green grass as he ran however Hirua also had an acute sense of smell so it didn't matter if he could see the old lemur or not, as long as he could keep his scent!

Morathi is quickly losing steam, so he's more or less running on raw fear now, that being the only strength pushing him onward. He knows it could spell disaster for the tribe if he leads the foosa back to his home, so he veers in another direction and winds up on the banks of a large waterhole.
"I might be able to lose him if I swim it," he mutters, "There won't be atrail to follow. Of course, the downside to that is if I can't make it, I'll drown...but that's better than being torn limb from limb! Geronimo!"

As Morathi jumped into the stream Hirua watched, amazed. "What an idiot! Everyone knows lemurs can't swim! Expecially not one like him!"
But Hirua was too smart to jump into the water after him. Instead he raced down the river bank always keeping a close eye on his prey. He knew of a spot where the stream drifted into a shallow pond. Just shallow enough for him to wade in and catch the unsuspecting primate.

Fortunately for Morathi, the water is littered with floating logs and branches to which he can cling in order to keep his head above the water. He has no idea that Hirua is still following him at the moment. All he's really concerned with now is managing not to drown.

Hirua was eager, too eager, to catch this stubborn animal and was leaving Morathis side to run ahead. Dirt, was dislodged as he continued to pick up speed.
He finally got to the pond and waited for Morathi to slowly drift to him.

And Hirua will probably be waiting all day. If he is to go back upstream a ways, he will find that Morathi is no longer in the water, but dangling above it. The old lemur had managed to snag a low-hanging tree branch with his cane and pull himself up out of the water. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee he will stay there very long as the branch he's hanging from is weak and nearly dead.

Hirua had been waiting for hours and Morathi still hadn't come his way, so he just decided to take a nap. Once the lemur did get his way, Morathis loud movement would awaken him anyway.
