"Most likely," Julien shrugs, "I'm surprised he hung around long enough to be exiled. It's a wonder he didn't leave de troop of his own accord if he couldn't stand de noise."

"It's a wonder," Tiki paused to think for a moment, "By the way, if you don't mind me asking, why did he get exiled in the first place?"

"You were here when half de jungle burned to de ground, right?" Julien asks, absently examining his nails and buffing them on his chest, "Julius staarted dat fire. It might be safe to consider him a pyromaniac."

"Oh yes! I remember that!" Tiki recalled the horrible day when a raging fire destroyed half of Julien's tribe.[/i]

"Well, he claims dat was an accident," Julien continues, "Daddy never did try him--maybe because he was afraid Julius really was guilty, I dunno--but he just exiled him. Perhaps to spare his miserable life. I dunno whedder to believe Julius or not. He's not a liar, but he is delusional, you know--cuckoo in de head."

"Yes, I agree. If I had a son who did that I wouldn't want to kill him. Spare his life and maybe he'll learn a lesson,"

"Julius wouldn't learn a lesson if it came up and bit him on de butt," Julien scoffs, "He's not like me. I'm sharp. If dare is a lesson to be learned, believe me, I will learn it. I'm not thick-headed like my brudder is."

"Yes, that's true, very true...if there's a lesson to be learned...Julien here will learn it!" Tiki joked around.[/i]

"Yes, I am a fast learner, aren't I?" Julien asks, missing the joke and apparently oblivious to the fact that he can be a bit thick in the head and often quite stubborn, "So how does Julius treat his followers ova dare? Are dey like slaves or what?"

"Yes, mainly his right-hand man...oh! What's his name?! Yu-something! It escaped me at the moment, but anyway. Yes, he never throws parties and if we disobey the rules the punishments are harsh!"

"For shame!" Julien exclaims, slamming his fist down on the "table"--and hurting his hand, "Owie! Yeesh! Anyway, dat's a pitiful ting--to deprive our species of parties and fun. Dat's just shameful. I'm surprised no one has tried to overthrow him yet."

"Well, actually, they have tried...but you know...it didn't really work out and Julius had them," Tiki didn't say the rest, just moved her paw across her neck horizontally hoping Julien would get what she meant.[/i]

"No! He didn't actually kill dem, did he?" Julien recoils in horror, "I never thought someone as overly sensitive as my brudder would be capable of murder..."

"Some he did...luckily none of my family though..." Tiki sighed in relief. "But my father did try before he disappeared. I do think Julius had something to do with that though!" She hardly remembered her beloved father anymore. [/i]

For once, Julien is quiet, obviously deep in thought. His expression is troubled--like his heart. He doesn't know what happened to cause his brother to go over the edge. After all, they had been the best of friends when they were growing up.
"I should talk to him," he sighs at last, "Dat's not de Julius I used to know. Someting went horribly wrong somewhere along de line..."

"But you can't Julien!" Tiki protested, "You know how much Julius hates your tribe?! Well enough to do something really, really bad!!! It's too dangerous Julien! You don't have to do this for my family,"

"I'm not gonna do anyting just yet," Julien replies, trying to reassure Tiki, "I'm still tinking. I am gonna do someting, I just dunno what. But whatever it is, I have to do it for you, for your family...and for my brudder."

Tiki knew she couldn't do anything to stop the king, she would just let him do what he wanted. The lemur had just now realized how dark it had gotten. It seemed as if only minutes before it was just sunset. Now the sun was all the way down and replaced by the glow of a bright full moon.

Julien can sense that Tiki is troubled by his determination, so he decides it's time to chance the subject. Regaining his carefree expression, he gets up and lights the torches around the "table", the stabs a mango with a sharp stick and holds it over the fire.
"Ever had roasted mango before?" he asks at length, "It's very good and--oops...I burned it..."

"No..."She started then, cracked up laughing as the fruit dropped into the flames. "But it sounds delicious!"

"Uh...I've never prepared it myself before," Julien states the obvious as he stabs another mango to try again, "I'm not even sure if dis is de proper tecnique."
After about three more burned-to-a-crisp fruits, Julien finally does one that isn't so charred and black, you can't tell what it is. This one actually look semi-edible.
"I did it!" he declares excitedly, "I did it! Yes! Me! I did it!"

"Yes, of course," Julien grins sheepishly, pulling the mango off the stick--only to discover that it is still quite hot. This ensures that a good comical reaction is in store. Julien fumbles the hot fruit, tossing it back and forth and blowing on it frantically like some kind of circus clown. Finally, it cools down and he breaks it in half, handing a piece to Tiki.

"Thank you," Tiki says, taking the fruit from the king and taking a bite out of it. It wasn't as juicy as other mangos she had had but it was still quite good. "Wow Julien! This is pretty good!"

"You're being truthful in saying dat?" Julien asks in disbelief, "You're not just saying dat to be nice? If I turn away for five seconds, will you spit it out all ova de place?"

"Nope! I promise!" Tiki said truthfully. "Go ahead, turn away for five seconds, you won't be disappointed."[/i]
