"Morathi!" Tiki recalled the name! "He's still alive after all this time?"

"Oh, yeah," Julien nods, rolling his eyes slightly, "He's still alive and probably de oldest thing in dis jungle now. He's not as wise as he used to be though. In fact, at times he makes a boulder look like a rocket scientist--whatever dat is."

Tiki giggled. Julien wasn't just cute...he had a sense of humor too! "Old Morathi!" Tiki thought back. "Anyway, I'm tired, can we get that tree?!" Tiki joked, grabbing Julien by the arm and pulling him in the direction of his tribe.

"Actually, if you like, dhere's a vacant branch in Torii's tree, though I dunno if you know her," Julien shrugs, removing his crown to idly twirl it on the end of his finger, "And if we kick Morathi out of dat tree over dhere, dat one will be vacant as well."

"Well, I don't really mind...but I kinda know YOU better than that Torii girl..." She smiled up at him. "Soooo, what would you suggest? Torii's tree, or Morathi's tree?"

"Oh...uh, well I...umm..." Julien stammers, blushing slightly as he tries to regain his composure, "Well, Morathi's tree is closest to my throne and it usually gets the best moonlight....uh, if you like moonlight."

"Oh!" Tiki light up, "I love moonlight! And there's supposed to be a full moon tonight...right?" Tiki asked, walking him back towards the tribe.

"Dhere should be," Julien smiles, glancing skyward, "Providing de night stays as clear as it is now. So...I take it you prefer Morathi's tree?"

"Yes!" Tiki smiled, "As long as you don't mind kicking ol' Morathi out!" Tiki laughed, looking up at Julien.

"It would be my pleasure," Julien assures her. Upon reaching the heartland of his territory, he wastes no type scrambling up old Morathi's tree, dodging a bit of a "waterfall" on the way up. A few moments after his disappears in the leaves, a brief scuffle breaks out, causing the branches to sway a bit violently before someone goes flying out of it as though he's been thrown--and it isn't Morathi.
"Oof!" Julien hits the ground hard, landing flat on his face, "De nerve of dat old coot! I tried to ask him nicely. Okay den. If dat's de way he wants it, den dat's de way he'll get it."
Rolling up his "sleeves", Julien marches back to the tree and climbs it once again. As before, another scuffle breaks out and...the ring-tail lemur becomes airborne once again.
"Maurice!" Julien barks in frustration, snapping his fingers as he summons his advisor, "Maurice!"
"You screamed?" Maurice sighs, standing at attention before his fallen monarch.
"No, I didn't scream," Julien frowns, drumming his fingers on the ground impatiently, "Now get dat old fart out of dat tree so dis girl can have a decent place to spent de night."
"Yes, sir," Maurice replies, camly striding over to the tree and climbing it. After a few moments of silence, Morathi half-climbs, haf-falls from the tree and hobbles away in no big rush.[/i]
"What'd you do to him?" Julien asks out of curiosity.
"I just explained this to him in a kind and civilized manner," Maurice shrugs, "He understood."
And Julien, his frustration getting the better of him, grinds his teeth and throws his crown on the ground in a slight temper tantrum.[/color]

Tiki laughed and helped the king to his feet. "He's so old yet so strong, eh?" Tiki giggled brushing a little bit of dust from the king's shoulder and flattening a ruff of fur that had been made disarray from the falls.
"So this is my place eh?" She climbed up the tree and stopped on the branch Morathi had called home for so long. She gazed out at the land before her and smiled. "It's so beautiful!"

"I, uh...I let him do dat," Julien mutters indignantly, dusting himself off, "Once in a while, I let de old mon thrash me. It's what, uh...keeps him young."
Picking up his crown and returning it to its rightful place between his pointed ears, he follows Tiki up the tree and comes to stand beside her on the branch.
"Dis is probably de best view in my entire kingdom," he smiles proudly as he gazes over his peaceful territory, "I think you'll be happy here."

"I think I will be too!" Tiki answered, looking at Julien. "How sweet, let ol' Morathi push ye around..." Tiki giggled at Julien's answer. He wasn't very good at coming up with excuses, she admitted.

"Well, I try to be a good sport," Julien shrugs, though this is far from being the absolute truth as ordinarily, he would have jumped Morathi's case for his insolent behavior, "Well...I suppose I shall bid thee good night. You'll be more rested tomorrow, I'm sure. Den I will show you de rest of de kingdom."
With a charming smile, he lightly kisses her hand, then descends the tree, swinging down from branch to branch to land in his throne below. With a contented sigh, he reclines in his rightful place as king and gazes dreamily at the stars as the moon starts to rise above the treetops. He eventually drifts off to sleep with a soft smile on his muzzle.

Tiki couldn't get to sleep though. Yes, the whole hospitility thing was grateful and all but what was happening back at home? What was happening with her mother and father and brother, Hira?
She wondered if she should go back home. What about Julien though? And the others she had met? They would be crushed AND they would think she was a spy. She couldn't do that to them after they gratefully accepted her to their home.
She sighed and looked up to the sky and the moon and the stars. No, she'd stay. Her family would be fine and she was old enough to make her own decisions. If her parents where half as wise as she was, they would follow her example and escape too.
Slowly, Tiki finally drifted into a comfortable sleep on the branch of the tree.

Julien is awakened some time later by a battle cry--a familiar battle cry and one he always dreads hearing. Knowing it can only be his demented brother, he signals for the rest of the tribe--especially Tiki--to lie low. Striding out into the moonlight, there stands his brother--looking enraged and seething like a mad dog.
"What are you doing here?" Julien asks, stopping a safe distance away and leaning against a tree with a yawn, "It's after midnight--do you know where your brain is?"

"No," Julius snaps, "But I know where that Tiki chick is! She's with you, isn't she?!"
To make his accusation more intimidating, Julius sticks a spear in Julien's face, mere inches from his nose.

"Well, it figures you wouldn't know where your brain is," Julien mutters, rolling his eyes as he pushes the spear aside with his finger, "Put dat thing away, will you? You might put someone's eye out! Didn't Daddy warn you about playing with sharp objects?"

"Dhere is no one in dis tribe by de name of Tiki, you delusional freak of nature," Julien frowns at his brother, "Who is Tiki anyway? Some imaginary friend of yours, big brudder?"

Tiki tried to stay low and quiet. But she'd have to move. The branch she was on was upwind and eventually Julius would smell her, he had to move and quick!

Julien senses Tiki's tension and he is aware that it probably won't be long before Julius picks up on it as well. Thinking fast, he comes up with a plan that's sure to drive his insane brother away.
"A one...a two...a one, two, three! Hit it!" he shouts, causing every lemur in his tribe--except Morathi--to awaken and commence loud partying which he fully encourages, "I like to move it, move it! I like to move it, move it! I like to move it, move it! You like to--"
"MOVE IT!!!"
"Sing with me, brudder!" Julien cries, putting Julius on the spot as he knows loud noises and wild partying makes him extremely nervous, "Move with de groove! It's all in de hips!"

Tiki thought the whole thing was hilarious but she didn't have much time to be sitting around and watching, she had to get out of there!
She jumped from branch to branch quietly before scurrying down the truck of a tree and running into a nearby bush which she soon found was a thorn bush.
She shrieked in pain as she tried to rid her body of the sharp spines. Maybe it was to late...had Julius heard her?

Fortunately for Tiki, Julius can't hear anything over his brother's racket and the whole situation has him in a state of panic as he wrenches away from Julien and flees, dodging dancing lemurs all the way as they bump into him. He finally winds up crawling away from the scene.
"You'll pay for this, Julien!" he shouts from the sidelines before departing, "I'll get you--and that pretty little Tiki too!"

Tiki sighed, leaving the thorn bush, only a few cuts to show. She sighed and walked up to Julien, "Thank you so much! I thought I was dead meat! That Julius really needs to get a life."

"Tell me about it," Julien mutters, signaling his tribe to settle down as Julius has cleared the scene in record time due to the noise, "Not only dat, de poor sap could use a brain as well. I just can't figure him out. De parties scare de spit out of him. Why? I may never know. Anyway, de coast is clear now."

"That's a relief...and as long as I'm here, and the parties stay as well, I may never have to leave!" Tiki thought about that.
Life with Julien...how would that ever turn out? Loud and rowdy seems like the two perfect words.

While other lemurs return to their trees to go back to sleep, Julien notices the sky getting lighter in the east. He glances at Tiki and gestures for her to follow him as he heads out of the jungle toward the beach. Upon reaching the sandy shores, he perches atop a large boulder, facing east as he looks out over the calm ocean.
"Dhere is nothing else in de world like watch a sunrise right here," he grins, holding his hand out to her to help her get up on top of the rock with him, "Dis is something you'll never see on Julius's side of de island."

She sat and watched in awe at the beauty of the sunrise. At Julius's side of the island he had never seen anything so beautiful.
